Why does the artwork need to be vector, not a raster image?
A contour cut derives its cutter path directly from the artwork file. A raster file (a PNG, for example) requires the vendor to manually redraw it for a contour cut, which adds fees, delays, and the risk their redraw doesn't match your intent.

Contour cut
A cutter following a path in your artwork to trim vinyl or decals to the shape of the design. It requires a proper vector cut line in the file — the machine cannot infer an outline from a photograph.
Die-cut
Cutting a piece all the way through to a custom shape rather than a rectangle, using a shaped die or a digital cutter. Individual custom-shaped stickers and uniquely shaped cards are die-cut.
Kiss-cut
Cutting through the sticker material but not its paper backing, so the sticker peels off a flat sheet that stays intact. It is what makes sticker sheets and easy-to-peel single stickers possible.
